Guest Blog #2

Hey so for you who have already read this you can skip down to the next paragraph. Since we are about half way into this football season I thought it would be a cool idea to ask some of my friends and family who are fans of football to write up their thoughts on how their favorite team has done so far and how they think they will do the rest of the season.

This one is written by my Aunt  Mindi and is her view of the Redskins.

So, how many of you Redskins fans were waking up this morning really upset and wondering "What if..."?! I know I was. Even looking at the Post this morning brought back the agony of last night. The elation of the last TD to take it to overtime, the excitement of winning the coin toss, then deflation when Gano missed the kick, to utter disgust when Dallas finally won. This game very much represents the Skins season in a nutshell, one wild ride, up and down with no view of the tracks ahead! Another one of those years...

The days of a winning record long in the rear view mirror, we are now in the dark days of November 2011 football. Gone are the days of Riggo and Monk where these games mattered, and for lots of fans, they don't even know a time when they did! It is sad when my daughter asks "Were we ever good?" and I have to try and paint her a picture so foreign it doesn't seem real to her. I just hope that one day, not in another 20 years but much sooner, she will get to experience it for herself. Sitting in Dec screaming as the games are meaningful, scheduling everything you do around games in Jan, and even finding a way to make the Super Bowl the greatest day of your life! That time will come, I know it will, I have faith, but just no time soon.

Let's all take a deep breath, understand that this is not the Skins of Super Bowl XVII or others, and bring our expectations to a realistic level. Hoping we can find some young guys to carry us into the future, get some wise draft picks, and believe in a day when my daughter can scream as loud as I did when the Redskins win another Super Bowl!

  1. So true! As big a sports fan as you are, Sports Crazy, you just don't get how it was in Washington in the crazy, heady winning days of the original Joe Gibbs era.
