Ho-hum

Well, there isn't much happening in the sports world but I didn't want to forget about writing. So let's see:

The Pats played the Lions last night and lost. But one bright spot was that the Lions pulled a great block-bluff. As the sportscaster put it, "Look at that wall of beef!" It's so funny what people say sometimes.

The Steelers played last night as well. They won 36-16 over the Falcons, not surprising, they are the Steelers after all.

That's all. Goodnight and please stay safe after the hurricane (and if you were in Rhode Island, the tornado).

Why Them?!?!

Well unfortunately the Yankees have set a new baseball record, three grand slams in one game. I am not joking... my least favorite team in the world (yes more then the Jets and the Giants) has set a record. 'Grumbles'. Since we are talking about the Yankees, I heard that there are some shirts going around that say, "I'll be dead before the Red Sox catch-up to the Yankees in the World Series." WHHHHHAT??? Oh, they did not just say that. Yes, it was on a shirt but still, rude.

The Washington Nationals lost their third game with the Diamondbacks last night under orange skies. It was like the whole sky had been filled with dust and someone had lit a flame behind the dust. Man was it cool.

Football time:
Bad News: The Redskins lost to the Ravens.
Good News: It was a last minute touchdown. Not bad considering that last season was... well... a train wreak, to put it gently. The defense has put itself together and the offense is finding their groove. One thing remans, who will be the QB? John Beck (my pick) or Rex Grossman (he is like sooo last season). Both showed how good they are in yesterday's game but they could be better. Then again, everyone could improve.

It's time for those outrageous predictions about who will be the best in the whole league. They say that the Patriots will lose to the Packers. Umm, I don't think so. They may have beat the Steelers last year (still upset about that) but they will NOT do the same to the Pats. Sorry; and anyway 70%* of the time this stuff is wrong. *Not an official estimate. Just guessing here.

And in Olympic news:  The IOC has said that if Qatar makes a bid for the 2020 summer Olympics (and win the bid) they will let them hold them in the fall of that year. But how will the women athletes compete covered from head to toe?? Swimming, beach volleyball, running... etc. All those show a lot of skin, which is frowned upon in Qatar.

I didn't mean to forget about this blog but school's started and it's been busy in my life.

Cooley out.

Chris Cooley is out for the rest of the preseason with an aggravated knee. He flew out of town late Wednesday night to Alabama to have it looked at. Cooley will need a month of rest says a source close to the football star. If all goes well he will be able to play opening day of the regular season. Talking about Redskin football their next game is tomorrow at 7:00 in Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis. After recovering from a groin injury, John Beck is going to be the starting QB for that game.

Stephen Strasburg played for the Hagerstown Suns Wednesday. In the game he gave up five runs on four hits. Not the best way to prove that he's just as good as he was before he had Tommy-John surjury. I'm sure that it's just a kink and it'll work itself out. The Washington Nationals play the Chicago Cubs tonight.

Some comments by a former Capitals player sting. Long time Caps player Matt Bradley made some interesting comments about his former team, although all the players and team members know what he said was true. They maybe true (and I agree with most of them), but they weren't all necessary. The team will change and it will be a new revamped Capitals team we see this fall. Training camp will be more demanding and the season will be a better played one. I thank Mr. Bradley for his comments but ask him to please learn to watch what comes out of his mouth.

Baseball, football, and golf, a trifecta of sports

Micheal Morse (first baseman for the Washington Nationals) was hit in his elbow-triceps area during yesterday's game against the Cubs with a 91-mph pitch. Let me just say ouch. Being stepped on by a horse hurts but not as much as that did. He left the game for a trip to a Chicago area hospital for a x-ray. It came back negative (for those like me who don't always remember what they mean by negative and positive, pos.= it's broken, neg.= it's not). Although it is a odd injury. When he was hit his muscles started to act erratically. He'll be out for a while but I pray that he doesn't wind up like Strasburg. Speaking of the super-star, I didn't really have choice whether to go to the game or not. Tonight's game with the P-Nats (Strasburg pitching) is sold out. I guess I'll be watching football. Time to get out my Terrible Towel!!

Yea! The Redskins and Steelers seasons start tonight. And yes if you didn't know, they're playing each other. The game's tonight at 7:30. Last night, New England won their game against Jacksonville 47-12; could this be a little glimpse at what's to come this year? It could be. Ryan Mallett, New England's rookie QB played the whole second half.

In golf, Rory McIlroy has injured his right wrist. Yesterday while trying to get his ball out of the rough he hit a root. By the end of the day he had it wrapped up, but he still managed to finish even par. He had a MRI on his wrist and found that it was (or it's just what they're telling us) a strained tendon. Tiger Woods is still trying to find his stride. If you ask me (and I know you didn't but let's just pretend you did) he shouldn't have lost it but since he did he needs to find it soon. Tiger finished the day +7, he may want to fix whatever is wrong.

Look who's trying to find his groove

Tiger Woods is playing golf again but isn't very good at it. That maybe due to the fact that he fired his caddie, changed up his swing, altered his looks (thanks to a goatee/scruff), and switched from his old reliable putter. And I though that it was just football and hockey players who were superstitious. Besides that if he thinks that he isn't like other golfers then why is he trying to look and golf like them? He also thinks that us normal people wouldn't understand because it's to complicated to explan to us.

The Redskins are, um, how should I say this... half-baked? Slowly they're coming together but it may take the whole of the pre-season to be fully funcional. Even then they still may need work. John Beck hasn't been able to pratice much because of a groin injury and may not be able to play in Friday's game.

The Nationals Stephen Strasburg will be playing with the Potomac Nationals Friday night. He only played in one game in Hagerstown and I don't have a clue how long he'll be with the P-Nats. Trying to decide weather to go watch a baseball star or stay home and watch football (of the Skins/Steeler kind) on Friday not an easy task.

Quarterbacks and a quick peek at winter

So, let me start by saying that the Redskin's first preseason game is 9 days away, and of course they're playing the Steelers. I still don't know who will be the starting QB. Maybe they will just switch John Beck and Rex Grossman back and forth every other game. Or they could do just let the two battle it out in the preseason games... that could work. On one hand we have John Beck who hasn't taken a NFL snap in four years. And on the other is Rex Grossman who has played some games with the Skins but is in my opinion still 'new'. Here's a very good article that was in the Washington Post a few days ago about John Beck and the Redskins offense.

So one of the places where I go snowboarding has now started a count down to when they open, posting pics from last winter. If they wanted to make me wish for snow more they have succeeded.
