Let's start with an update on the Capitals game: no more hat trick. Dennis Wideman's first career hat trick didn't last long. As the paper (The Washington Post) put it, after the NHL reviewed the play the goal was credited to Brooks Laich with an assist from Wideman.
To the NFL!
The Steelers played the Browns on Thursday and won in the low scoring game. I'm not sure but I think that Big Ben was still playing with a fractured right thumb (please don't take my word on that like I said not 100% sure). Late in the second quarter Big Ben took a hard sack and got his leg pinned under Browns defenseman Scott Paxson. He thought he had broken his leg. After being helped to the sidelines he headed to the locker room for an x-ray. Good news: it wasn't broken, bad news: it's going to hurt like all get out. Big Ben did come back to finish the game, hobbling onto the field, wincing as he tossed the ball to a player, and grimacing as he stepped up to throw. Even playing through pain Big Ben and the Steelers win 14-9 over the Browns. To read a full report on the Steeler's game here's a link.
The Skins had some hope at the start of the game but once the New England offense got going it was hard to stop, although they did mange to break Tom Brady's 200 game straight without an interception (and this happened right after the announcers showed us his stats). But Grossman showed me again why we just can't be a good team no matter how many good players we have. I'll give you an example, in the fourth quarter Grossman passes the football to S. Moss who fumbles it as he's tackled and it looks like he tosses it right to Jerod Mayo who lands hard on his right arm which he hurt earlier in the game. Two things I see:
1. Moss should have had that football under control
2. Grossman should have seen that Moss was covered and looked for someone else.
The deal with the Skins is they have spent a wee bit to much time on the defense and not enough time with the offense. End of story. Final Score 34-27 Pats
